Building a site on a free host for intermediates continued
We've already seen that to add an image to a page we use the <img src="filename.jpg"> tag. To make the image a link - you put <a href="filename.htm"><img src="filename.jpg"></a> around the image tag. Basically, the image tag replaces the text link in the linking html we've already learnt.
Getting banners and buttons for your philosophy site
You can choose to have text links (like I have) or you can have buttons. To make your own all you need is a graphics program like Photoshop (£300) or Paintshop Pro (<£100) or you could even get away with using the paint program that comes with your computer. You can download these programs and use the free trial. Paintshop Pro gives you 60 days or something like that. Make a search on the internet. If you can't be bothered to make your own buttons there are a few in the images section of my resources page which you are free to use. And you can find many more by searching the net.
Banners
The banner image on my template is 700px wide and 185px high. If you want to make your own banner and stick it on that template, then as long as it is 700px wide it will fit nicely. Remember you can change the background colour of the page so that it fits in with your new banner.
Have a look at this page I made it with the free template on my resources page. I've spruced it up a bit by adding the 'ethics' image at the top and the button at the bottom.
There you have it. This is a far as the web design tutorials go on this site. I hope they've been useful and got you on the road to designing your own free sites. Once you've made your first steps in web design it gets easier and easier
