making philosophy sites and keeping visitors

Getting people onto your site isn't all that difficult. If you have a decent position in the search engines, if your link is on other related sites, then you'll get visitors. However, if you want people to come back, you are going to have to do something to make them want to come back.

Here are three ways you could get people to come back to your site:

Regularly update your philosophy site

If you add new pages to your site then, the chances are, the people who enjoyed reading the 'old' pages will want to come back to read the new ones. Your visitors will need to know that you are going to be updating. Think about creating a 'updates' page. Include links to the recent updates and put the dates in which they were added. This will give your visitors an idea on how often you update. You could also let them know what future updates will be and when you plan to upload them.

Have your own philosophy discussion forum

It's easy to include a discussion forum on your philosophy site. A forum is an easy way to give visitors a reason to come back every day and can also be a valuable learning resource. It is however difficult to get a forum going. People are often reluctant to make comments on a new board and many people turn up just to read the posts. Probably the best way to start a forum is to start of with a few friends who want to use the board. If there are a few of you already posting, it'll be easier for others to join in. Check the resources page for free forums you can use on your site.

Put some fun stuff on your philosophy site

If you put some fun stuff on your philosophy site you get plenty of return visitors. Check out the resources section for free javascript resources and games you can cut & paste and modify with ease.
