Finished your philosophy site? 5 things to do

First

Go through your site and check that every page is spelled correctly and contains no obvious mistakes or design errors. Make sure all your links work and are linking to the correct page! You don't want to lose visitors because they are put off by the look of your site. Philosophy sites don't have to look amazing but they need to be clean, easy to read and easy to use.

Second

Make sure that all your pages are optimized for search engines. If you do not know what this means. Check the search engine optimization tutorial now!

Third

it will take a few weeks to get listed on the search engines and possibly many months to get listed on the first or second pages. Some people say it isn't worth the effort submitting your site to search engines but it won't do you any harm. They say it isn't worth it because the SEs should find you anyway. Submit to google and yahoo.

Fourth

Start sending out emails to webmasters. You need to get your site listed on the links pages of other sites. The reason for his is twofold. Firstly, you want people who are interested in your kind of philosophy clicking that link and visiting your site. Secondly, the more sites you have linking to you the better position you'll have in the search engines. Finding links is a neverending task. You never say to yourself I've got 10 sites linking to me, that's enough it's never enough!

Fifth

Think of ways to improve your site. Once you have visitors you are going to want to keep them. The only way to have people keep coming back to your site is to give them a reason to. You could add more pages of content or perhaps have a forum where your members can discuss philsophy. You could have your own forum for free by filling out a simple a form and putting a link on your site. Have a look at the resources section.
